Background
Critical infrastructure is becoming increasingly digital, distributed, and interconnected. Energy grids, water systems, cities, communication networks, and other essential services depend on sensors, connected devices, cloud platforms, and automated decision-making. While this creates new opportunities for efficiency and automation, it also increases exposure to cyberattacks, communication failures, environmental events, and other disruptions.
RESCUE (Resilient Edge Systems for Critical Infrastructure and Urban Environments) addresses this challenge by developing technologies that allow critical systems to continue operating when parts of the infrastructure, connectivity, or cloud services become unavailable.
The project combines edge computing, AI-driven anomaly detection, resilient communications, cybersecurity, and diverse sensor data to detect and classify threats, respond locally, and maintain critical functionality during unexpected events.
