Strips Guard for LoRaWAN: quick start

Revision A · October 2026 · Sensative AB

Strips Guard is a magnetic open/close sensor for LoRaWAN. It reports when a door, window, gate, cabinet or drawer opens or closes, and it also measures temperature.

In the box

  • Strips Guard, with the adhesive already on the back
  • One or two magnets on the sensor. They keep it in transport mode. Afterwards, one goes on the door or window.
  • The LoRaWAN keys (DevEUI, JoinEUI and AppKey), on a label in the box and by e-mail

You need

  • A LoRaWAN gateway within range, powered on and online
  • An account on a LoRaWAN network server, with the gateway added
  • The region on the sensor's label. Gateway and network server must use the same region, and in US915 and AU915 the same sub-band.
  • The Strips payload decoder in your network server or application

From box to ready

1

Register the sensor in the network server

Add a new end device: OTAA, LoRaWAN 1.0.4, regional parameters RP002-1.0.1 and the frequency plan for your region. Enter the DevEUI, JoinEUI (AppEUI) and AppKey exactly, and add the Strips payload decoder.

Done when: the device is listed, waiting for its first join.
2

Join and check the signal

Take every magnet off the sensor. It sends a join request: a short green blink, then one long green blink when joined. Five short red blinks means the join failed: check the keys, region, sub-band and gateway. Then hold Strips where it will sit and send an uplink: magnet to the rounded end three times, 20 cm away and 2 seconds apart.

Done when: the network server shows the device as joined, and the link carries at least SF9 (SNR above −5 dB, RSSI above −115 dBm).
3

Choose the place

Strips goes on the frame (recommended) and the magnet on the door or window, or the other way round. Keep both clear of hinges and locks. To hide Strips inside the frame you need a gap of at least 3.5 mm.

Do not mount Strips on metal. Keep the magnet away from the rounded end: a magnet at both ends at once is read as tampering.
4

Mount

Clean both surfaces: clean, dry and at least +10 °C. Tape Strips in place, put the magnet opposite the square end, and check that open and close arrive. Then mark the position, peel the film off the adhesive and press Strips firmly in place. Fix the magnet the same way.

Closed: magnet under 10 mm from the square end or under 5 mm beside it. Open: at least 30 mm away
Closed: the magnet is less than 10 mm from the square end, or less than 5 mm beside it. Open: at least 30 mm away.
5

Test

Open and close the door a few times and watch the messages. From the factory, Strips reports the door status, tampering and a daily heartbeat. Choose a profile in the Strips LoRa Config Tool only if you want something else, such as alarms, a door counter or beacon mode for metal doors.

Done when: every open and every close arrives, with the right status.
