LoRaWAN Quick start

Square Tracker Xtreme for LoRaWAN: quick start

From the opened box to a working sensor on one page. The full manual has the details, the settings and the troubleshooting.

Revision A · October 2026 · Sensative AB

Square Tracker Xtreme tells you where your assets are, indoors and outdoors: GNSS (GPS and BeiDou) outdoors, Wi-Fi scanning indoors, with a cloud service such as Yggio turning the scans into positions. The sealed IP68 housing is made for wet, dusty and knocked-about places.

In the box

  • Square Tracker Xtreme, with the adhesive already on the back
  • The screw mounting frame. Screws and cable ties are not included
  • The keys (DevEUI and AppKey) come with the delivery information

You need

  • A LoRaWAN gateway within range, online, and an account on a LoRaWAN network server with the gateway added
  • The sensor’s DevEUI and AppKey. The JoinEUI is 70B3D52C0001D4C3
  • A phone with NFC, to start the sensor. Android is recommended; an iPhone needs an NFC reading app
  • A payload decoder for Sensative VSM sensors, and a cloud service that supports GNSS and Wi-Fi positioning, for example Yggio. Without it the scans give no position
  • The optional Hugin NFC app needs an Android phone with NFC and GPS, and an Yggio user account, with the sensor registered to your organisation

From box to ready

1

Register the sensor in the network server

Add a new end device: OTAA, MAC version 1.0.4, regional parameters RP002-1.0.3, max EIRP 14 dBm, and your frequency plan. Enter the DevEUI, the AppKey and the JoinEUI.

Done when: the device is listed, waiting for its first join.
2

Join the network with NFC

Switch NFC on and take off the phone case. Hold the phone over the lower left corner of the front and keep it still for about 5 seconds.

Done when: the network server shows the join, usually within two minutes.
3

Check the signal where it will sit

Put the tracker where it will be mounted and look at its messages in the network server.

Done when: the link carries SF9 or better: SNR above −5 dB and RSSI above −115 dBm.
4

Mount it on the asset

Fix the mounting frame with M4 screws, or clean the surface with a 50:50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water, let it dry, and press the adhesive firmly in place. Cable ties go through the eyelets. Keep the front reachable for NFC.

GNSS needs an unobstructed view of the sky: mount the tracker with the front, top or right side towards the sky, with nothing over it.

5

Test

Move the asset, or the tracker, and then leave it still. For GNSS, do this outdoors under an open sky. By default it scans Wi-Fi first and uses GNSS only when Wi-Fi finds too few access points; for assets mostly outdoors, switch GNSS Mode on (see the full manual).

Done when: after the movement starts, and again after it stops, scans arrive and the cloud service turns them into a position.
