Background
Water damage is among the most expensive things that happen to a building, and it is usually discovered long after it starts. Point sensors help where a leak is expected, such as under a dishwasher or in a technical room, but a pipe can fail anywhere, and covering a building point by point is neither cheap nor practical.
This feasibility study examined sensor technology for distributed monitoring: detecting moisture along a length rather than at a spot, so a whole building can be covered at reasonable cost.
