Background

Property data such as building models, real-time measurements and operational records sits in separate systems belonging to separate owners, described in different ways. A service developer who wants to work across several property owners has to learn each one’s data individually, which is why so few such services exist.

Fastighetsdatalabbet set out to establish both the technical platform for sharing that data and the ecosystem of actors willing to share it, so that data-driven services around energy flows, indoor climate and operations become possible across company boundaries.

Results

A central outcome was progress on common data models and APIs for the industry, including work on the RealEstateCore ontology. The ecosystem grew from roughly 20 participants at the start to more than 100, with several active working groups, and the lab went on to feed a number of later innovation projects.

Sensative participated as a platform and sensor supplier, because shared data models are only useful if the systems that collect the data actually implement them.
