Background

Services delivered into people’s homes, such as remote care, alarms and monitoring, are only as dependable as the home network they run on. Consumer broadband and Wi-Fi are built for average performance rather than assured performance, which is a poor fit for a service someone’s safety depends on.

A5GARD worked on the platforms and mechanisms needed to make home network access stable and predictable enough for such services, with elderly care and welfare technology as the concrete use case.

Sensative’s role

Sensative contributed sensing and platform technology. Wireless sensors in a home produce the data that welfare services act on, and the value of that data collapses if delivery is unreliable, which puts the sensor layer and the connectivity layer in the same design problem.

The project ran within the EUREKA cluster CELTIC-NEXT with Swedish participation funded by Vinnova.
